Description

Description

For Christians, even mathematics was suspect. In the 4th century in Emesa, they did not want Eusebius as bishop because he engaged in mathematical studies. Geometry and other sciences were literally considered godless activities.

The church historian Eusebius attacks the 'heretics', saying that 'despising the sacred texts of God, they occupy themselves with geometry; for they are men of the earth, speaking an earthly language and do not know Him who comes from heaven. With zeal they study Euclid's geometry. They admire Aristotle and Theophrastus. Some even almost worship Galen.'

Christian theology particularly condemned the natural sciences.
