This volume is based on the proceedings of a conference titled "The Integration of the EU and the Future of Southeast Europe," which was organized by the Konstantinos Karamanlis Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Athens on June 1, 2002.

It follows the structure of three sessions around three main themes: "EU Enlargement - Exporting Stability or Importing Instability?", "The Process of Stabilization and Association Agreements with the European Union: Status and Prospects," and "The New European Architecture and the Future of Southeast Europe."

Considering the topic of European integration as a framework for the evolution of Southeast Europe, the authors aim to provide a comprehensive presentation of current issues while simultaneously presenting the views of all involved parties. A second level of analysis is provided by the experience gained thus far through regional developments and the process of "European integration" on a case and country basis.
