Kostas Simitis was one of the darkest (perhaps even saddest...) figures in modern Greek political life. Being at the center of developments for many years and in the core of decision-making, he played - whether we like it or not - a very significant role in the course of our country's affairs. A "dry" and absolute figure, Simitis managed to be simultaneously disliked by the overwhelming majority of Greeks, yet all-powerful at the "helm" of the country! Another "absurdity" of our political system, if one considers that political personalities of much greater stature than Simitis went almost unnoticed in the "stratosphere" of our country's public life...
