Plato's Symposium is one of the greatest creations of ancient Greek and, more generally, human intellect. With the interest presented by the subject at the center of its contemplation, with the richness of its content and its artistic form (as thought and speech are intertwined in a remarkable unity, perhaps more so than in any other philosophical writing), it has garnered the recognition and admiration of people with genuine intellectual interests and emotional sensitivity. At the same time, it has been a constant challenge, since antiquity, for philosophers and philologists to turn to the multifaceted and in-depth study of the work: they identified the problems of understanding and attempted to provide satisfactory answers. I will attempt to provide a concise presentation of the results of the philological and philosophical research of the Symposium in the pages that follow, starting with the always useful visit of names concerning the title of the Platonic work.
