I have had it for 4 years on mountain biking, hiking, humidity, snow, warm, etc. It is durable, excellent receiver, low configuration but whoever wants has an internal trimmer that elevates it to a very good level

I was a cbr thirty years ago, I can say that this portable cb has a noticeable improvement both in terms of size and capabilities - functions it offers compared to the portable ones that were circulating at that time.
The midland alan 42 ds offers a complete system with two alkaline battery cases and rechargeable ones, a battery eliminator for the car, a charger and a case which, however, only fits when we wear the small case of the six alkaline batteries and not the eight rechargeable ones.
The charging light does not turn off as soon as the batteries are charged (not included), so we have to calculate the charging time according to the mah of the batteries we will use.
    The receiver sensitivity is excellent.
The antenna that accompanies it is quite small and convenient, but from what I hear, a larger one will be needed to reach the signal in more distant stations.
The scan function it has is very convenient to see in which channel there is activity.
In conclusion, a reliable device that I hope will provide me with several hours of entertainment but also security in case of emergency if the other telecommunications stop working

With its own antenna, it's not for much. You need to buy an extra one, with 50 plus points something happens. I have been using it for 5 days with 8 alkaline batteries (they still last...). For the car, I bought a magnetic one that works perfectly with it. The connection to the car lighter is very easy, as well as switching from battery pack to car lighter position. You need to be careful with the plastic locks of the battery pack, one of them broke on the first day because it took a little extra force. (The closing is a bit mysterious, but you learn it after a couple of times). But it's not a problem to close it normally again. I haven't tried the pack of 6 batteries yet. As for the pros, the fact that you have both portable and base with one device. You get out of the car, take it with you with the batteries and use it. You are at home, connect it to an external antenna and it becomes a base. In terms of price, I think it could have been lower, when for the same money you can get a mobile device with similar features and a magnetic one for the car. For the intended use, mainly for walking and cycling and sometimes for the car, it is perfect for everyday use.

I don't know what they find good about it.
Even with a long external antenna, it doesn't pick up anything. With a high base antenna, without interference, still nothing, and maximum power at 2W.
Obviously, this specific piece must be defective. I will contact the company to return it.
