Nettle
Latin name: urtica dioica
Nettle is found almost everywhere in Greek nature, mainly as a weed. It is also very common in Great Britain, where the plant's name (nettle) is used in the English language as a synonym for annoyance and danger.
The leaves of nettle are rich in vitamin C and are traditionally used as:
- Diuretic, for treating kidney stones
- Soothing for irritations from insect stings and minor burns as a poultice (compress) or simple washes
- Circulatory tonic and detoxification of the body in cases of arthritis, rheumatism, sciatica, and gout
It is used as an infusion: Boil 1 cup of water and add about 1 teaspoon, then cover and let it steep for 30 minutes. Strain the solution and drink it. It is preferably taken on an empty stomach in the morning or 3 hours after a meal.
