K. Kanellakis, born in one of the great Mastichochoria, Nenita, a mastiha producer himself, knew more than any other historian of his time about the product of his land, providing valuable information that all those involved in the history of mastiha during the Ottoman period refer to. More valuable elements emerged from the unpublished manuscripts found in the "Korais" Library. Thanks to his special sensitivity to seek sources and his remarkable ability to read illegible texts, extremely important elements were saved, which shed light on demographic, administrative, economic, social, and other issues of the historical municipality of Mastichochoria with their unique product in the world, which largely determined their life and fate. He saved in the original and in his own transcription the register written in 1831, in a ruined place, by the survivors of 1822, who were trying to reorganize their lives, and it contains the exact tax on mastiha, which each mastiha grower nominally paid per village. Particularly enlightening are the elements with the new terms for the mastiha cultivation regime after the abolition of the Turkish monopoly and the agreements between producers and traders, which until today were not known. In addition to what he saved, he himself fought for the improvement of the conditions of the hard-working mastiha producers.
