The great humanist Leonardo Bruni ("Leonardo Aretino", 1369-1444) wrote a unique work in ancient Greek, the "Florentine Republic". This political treatise of the early Renaissance period, despite its brevity, has not been published in Greece until now. A leading intellectual figure of his time and a passionate visionary of ethical governance, Leonardo Bruni, the chancellor of the Republic of Florence, can be considered the first political thinker who, with this monumental text, gave us the archetype of the civic democracy of the modern state.
