Description

Pilion is one of the most densely populated mountains in Greece. The distribution of settlements and arable land contributed to the development of a dense network of paths and cobbled streets. Today, much of these paths have been replaced by asphalt roads and mainly by dirt roads. Nevertheless, even the remaining remnants of the old network of paths are enough for one to walk for months and continuously discover "new" old roads.

Like all maps in the "Topo25" series, the "Pilion" map has a detailed representation of the terrain with contour lines every 20m and a multitude of elements of the natural and human landscape. All these elements, as well as the roads and the network of paths, were mapped using GPS in 2003. On the reverse side of the map, 26 routes are marked, with starting and ending points in villages and beaches. For each route, the elevation difference or elevation gain is provided, as well as an approximate estimate of the walking time without breaks.

The "Topo" series represents the latest step in the long evolution of cartographic work by "Anavasi". It includes maps at scales of 1:100,000, 1:50,000, 1:25,000, and 1:10,000, crafted in the Greek Geodetic Reference System (EGSA 87). "Anavasi" aims to provide the best and most accurate cartographic material, ensuring the highest possible precision for the specified scales.

In the "Topo" series from "Anavasi", two coordinate systems are represented: the square grid at 1 km in EGSA and the crosses of geographic coordinates at 1 minute in WGS84. If you use the map in combination with GPS, you can locate your position based on the coordinates provided by the GPS without changing any settings.
