The Cyclades are the major tourist attraction of Greece, and as such, they are usually described in broad strokes (white houses, colorful fishing boats, and the endless blue of the sea). However, each of these fragments of the old Aegean has its own identity, often with an unknown interior and its own history.
These peculiarities invite you to discover the maps of Anavasi, through road tours and primarily through the old network of paths that are still well-preserved in many islands.
The "Topo" series represents the latest step in the long evolution of the cartographic efforts of "Anavasi." The "Topo" series includes maps at scales of 1:100,000, 1:50,000, 1:25,000, and 1:10,000. The maps are made in the Greek Geodetic Reference System (EGSA '87), the national geodetic system implemented to meet the needs of large land registration and mapping programs in the country.
Considering that the map is a tool upon which the safety of the user sometimes depends, "Anavasi" strives to provide the best and most accurate cartographic material. Thus, all operations (construction of basemaps, collection and recording of field data, final cartographic composition) are conducted with defined and strict quality and accuracy standards that ensure maximum possible precision for the specified scales.
In the "Topo" series of "Anavasi," two coordinate systems appear:
- The grid at 1 km intervals in the Greek Geodetic Reference System. It is a complete rectangular grid (orange lines). The projected coordinates of EGSA are expressed in meters.
- The crosses of geographic coordinates at 1 minute intervals in WGS84. These are the intersection points of the meridians and parallels of the global geodetic reference system that have been projected onto the map.
If you are using the map in conjunction with GPS, you can locate your position based on the coordinates provided by the GPS without changing any settings.
