This book represents an original research work in which the sociology of genetics, critical criminology, and the sociology of death converse. It inaugurates an interdisciplinary dialogue regarding genetics as a system of knowledge - power, where socially deviant behaviors are constructed as genetic realities in genetic laboratories and courtrooms. What truth does the gene narrate when called to testify regarding the perpetrator, the victim, living or dead individuals associated with sexually or socially deviant behaviors? How do transitions occur from the surveillance system of social subjects to the surveillance of genes? How are deviant genes constructed from deviant individuals, and ultimately the "candidate criminal genes"? A particular achievement of the book lies in the empirical research conducted by the author. Through a vivid sociological narrative, the pages of the book guide readers through the genetic laboratories and courtrooms of Greece, where geneticists produce scientific knowledge and are called to provide it as experts.
