The night spent at the Prater racetrack by a Viennese aristocrat is not only "fantastic" and magical, but it is also miraculous; and this is because that night triggered a profound awakening within him.
The hero describes himself as he was before that night, in notes found after his death: an aristocrat of Vienna's high society who spent his time in carefree idleness. Until one day, he experiences something at the Prater racetrack that completely changes him: he is overtaken by passion.
This transformation is as psychological as it is dramatic. The hero is now intoxicated by what he observed from a distance and envied in others. Throughout the night, contempt became a magical attraction. This complete reversal, with all the harsh vacillations that accompany it, is the secret of his life.
To achieve it, he will need to undergo yet another experience, that of recording his emotional upheavals.
