Divided into two main categories, the examples included in this volume pertain to: the simple doors that were constructed with functionality at the forefront, presenting minimal decoration on the surfaces of the doors, and the complex doors, where particular attention has been given to the casings, often endowing the whole with a monumental character.
Most of the decorative patterns used are derived from the well-known carved types of antiquity (rosettes, palmettes, etc.), which are often combined with elements of Western Baroque and decorative patterns with a distinctly Oriental character in areas where different cultures have converged (Crete, Rhodes, etc.).
