Greece, despite its small size, is rich in local dialects and idioms that grant it an invaluable linguistic wealth.

However, words that have survived for millennia unfortunately disappear or have already disappeared in our days in the face of the overwhelming advance of the official Greek language.

This publication, therefore, is an effort to collect, etymologically explain, and primarily preserve the words in use in Vervena, Arcadia, a village hidden at an altitude of 1160m in the Parnon mountain range.

The rich Vervena idiom, as a variation of the broader Peloponnesian dialect, can provide valuable information about the history, folklore, and general tradition of the wider Peloponnese region and beyond.
