The refugee resettlement of Greek-Christian populations who inhabited the Balkan territories of the Ottoman Empire, the "Eastern" lands as we know them, and the Russian-Soviet territories from the onset of the Balkan Wars until the 1960s, culminating in the Asia Minor Catastrophe, caused significant demographic shifts and created new social conditions in the Greek state. This work aims to systematically record the refugee groups that settled in the region of Pella from 1912-13 until the 1960s, as well as to present life in this area prior to the arrival of the refugees, in order to highlight the changes that occurred in the local society.

It also thoroughly records the problems faced by the refugees and the impact they had on economic, political, and social levels during the first 50 years of their presence in this region.

SUMMARY

Agni Koliadimou was born and resides in Thessaloniki. She studied History and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master's and Doctoral degree in Modern and Contemporary History from the same university. Her academic interests mainly focus on the study of the Hellenism of the East, the social, political, and economic parameters of the refugee issue, as well as their settlement and resettlement in Greece from the period of the Balkan Wars to the present. She has participated in conferences, and her work has been published in journals and collective volumes. This study constitutes her doctoral thesis. She works as a philologist in Secondary Education.
