In 1949, after the end of the Greek Civil War, 28,000 Greek children were "found" in Eastern countries. For these children, the Communist Party of Greece organized a Greek-speaking educational system which, like Janus, had its gaze directed towards two directions: their socialist and patriotic education.
The education officials managed to advance these two goals in parallel, with each reinforcing the other. The combination of these two specific goals served as the fundamental means of forging the personality of the children and produced subjects with a distinct identity both on an individual and collective level.
This educational system stands in stark contrast to its counterpart in Greece and reflects the political developments of the time.
