At the NAMM show in 1995, thousands of guitarists, media, and dealers participated in a small demo inside Peavey's exhibition, where their technicians created a blind A/B comparison between their new technological discovery and a real tube amp. No one could tell the difference between the two. Some "golden ears" even believed that the TransTube Bandit was the actual tube amplifier.
In designing the TransTube circuit, Peavey engineers studied every aspect of how a tube amplifier works. Recreating the tube tone is not just a matter of gain structure; it involves the entire chain of components and how each interacts with the others. It concerns the damping factor and the corresponding speaker response, as well as the compression of the final amplifier.
