The study of the five churches from the mid-19th century presented here, Saint Athanasius (1834), the Savior Christ (1846), and the Virgin Mary (1843) in Didymoteicho, and Saint Athanasius (1840) and Saint George (1854) in Soufli, began with Louiza Sindika-Lavourda and continued, after 1990, by the undersigned.

Ms. Lavourda had focused on the first two churches of Didymoteicho, i.e., Saint Athanasius and the Savior Christ, and had gathered general literature regarding Didymoteicho and Soufli.

Continuing the work of Ms. Lavourda, I found myself in continuous dialogue with the traces of thought of a lady I have never had the opportunity to meet but got to know only through her handwriting and admired her persistence in seeking every detail, in her tireless effort for a better outcome.

If she had completed the research and writing on the churches of Didymoteicho and Soufli, she might have succeeded perhaps better than I did.
