In 1868, a gigantic sea monster spreads terror among sailors. The frigate Abraham Lincoln takes on the task of hunting it down and cleaning the seas. Joining this mission are Frenchman Pierre Aronnax, professor at the Museum of Natural History in Paris, his loyal servant Conseil, and a Canadian whaler and renowned harpooner, Ned Land.
