Early in the twentieth century. A wealthy merchant travels to Italy with his wife and nineteen-year-old daughter for a vacation. There, at a resort for the rich, he enjoys watching his precious Erna shine as she dances, plays tennis, and captivates a Polish count, an Italian officer, and a German baron.
