Child of the theater, Rhea Maneli easily found her way, a path paved by her parents and grandmother, but under very difficult circumstances. Certainly, life did not show her its best face: her parents, the popular comedian Frantzesko Maneli (1909-1978) and his partner and wife Mary Laidou (1915-1960), "forgot" to register her at the Civil Registry, resulting in Rhea being unable to obtain an ID when she grew up. But they also forgot her biological care, forgot that she existed as a human being and that as a human she had her own needs.
Thus, from a young age, Rhea lived with her grandmother, Eftihia Papagiannopoulou, who, as we know, was the lyricist of great hits in modern music. But even she did not cope easily. Anyway, within the warmth of her grandmother, she grew up. Rhea received valuable help from her dancing talent. Delicate as a stem, sensitive, with a rich imagination and special studies, because she always had a great thirst for cultivation, for learning, she quickly stood out and became highly sought after by troupes and nightclubs in Greece and abroad.
She settled in America, where she closed herself off in her private life, and there she had every opportunity to reminisce about the past. And with this book of her experiences, to pay a long-overdue tribute to her grandmother. – F. Iliadis
