The painful reconstruction of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki (1945-1946) and the documentation of the obstacles faced by the reintegration of Jews into the city's collective identity. The ongoing efforts to reclaim seized properties and the reluctance of the state to confront the custodians. The post-war looting of the destroyed cemetery of the Community and the conditions under which the Management Service of Jewish Properties operated.
Leon A. Nar, utilizing an abundant archival material, evaluates the conditions that prevailed during the first two years of the post-war reconstruction of the Community, which, without distancing itself from the trauma it suffered, attempts to gradually acclimatize to managing the new reality.
Leon A. Nar was born in Thessaloniki in 1974. He studied Classical Philology at Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, pursued postgraduate studies in Modern Greek Philology, Bibliology, and Teaching Literature at the same University (2000), and in 2007 he was awarded a doctorate in Modern Greek Philology. In December 2017, he completed postdoctoral research at the University of Macedonia.
In 2007, he published (in collaboration with George Anastasiadis and Christos Raptis) the book "I, the grandson of a Greek, the Thessaloniki of Nicolas Sarkozy" (Kastaniotis), which was also translated into French. In 2009, his two-volume work titled "Yosef Eliya, Complete Works" (Gabriiliadis) was published, while in 2011, his bilingual (in Greek and English) book titled "The Future of the Past, Thessaloniki 1912-2012" (Kapon, with photographs by Giorgis Gerolymbos) was released, along with the study "Jews Members of Parliament in the Greek Parliament," which was edited by the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament.
In 2014, the book "The Game of the Stands, Commented Slogans from Greek Stadiums" (Metaichmio) was published. Finally, in 2017, his play "I Never Forgot You" (along with a CD of the Sephardic songs from the namesake performance), which was staged by the National Theatre of Northern Greece in 2017, was released (Eurasia).
His writings on topics of philology, history, and literature, as well as his book reviews, have been published in collective volumes, magazines (both print and electronic), and he has edited 6 books (of historical content and children's literature). He had a regular column in the newspapers "Ethnos" (2017-2018) and "Macedonia of Sunday" (2006-2008). He writes for Parallaximag.gr and the magazine "Thessalonikians Polis." He works as a philologist at the American College of Anatolia in Thessaloniki.
