  • Yayoi Kusama is a world-famous contemporary artist from Japan who has dedicated her life to her art. More specifically, to her beloved dots, which she depicts everywhere... On paintings, sculptures, fabrics, furniture, even on the clothes she wears... With the help of this book, we become companions in her life and learn important information about her art.

Although I love painting and visit museums and art exhibitions, I must admit that I did not know Yayoi Kusama. I discovered her through this particular book, at my five-year-old children's school, and I was truly excited!

At first, I thought she was related to pointillism... But searching for information about her works, I realized that her dots belong nowhere, except to herself! It is something completely different, a unique style that cannot be classified into any artistic movement...

A little girl, from a village in Japan, who refuses to fit into molds, stereotypes, and rules... She is not satisfied with the little and simple, and wants to follow her dream and the voice of her heart.

She sees dreams and visions full of dots and captures them on paper. Even when she is alone, poor, and unknown, she continues to work hard, believing in herself and aiming for success! Which, in the end, does not take long to come...

Yayoi Kusama, apart from the wonderful works of art she gives us, also offers us a great life lesson. Faith in ourselves and our abilities, persistence and patience, focus on our goals, mental strength, and ultimately success!

For these reasons, she is now one of the contemporary women I admire!

For me, the book is simply amazing, for young and old! Colorful, full of dots, it takes us from Japan to New York, to galleries, museums, and cities where her works exist.

It is a good opportunity to talk to young children about the value of painting and to give them the impetus to express their own artistic concerns.

The whole book is filled with her favorite dots, while at the end there are photos of her authentic works.

Even the cover is full of dots and the iconic figure of Yayoi... She wears a dress she designed herself with red and white dots of different sizes and the famous bright red wig!

Personally, I feel very "small" to talk about such an important personality. But I am glad I discovered her and I truly feel moved, both by her art and her life!

From now on, having discovered Yayoi Kusama, I will see dots with a completely different perspective...
