The term “political song” has historically puzzled scholars of Greek music, both those motivated by their love and passion for the genre and those who have studied related themes. Concurrently, upon hearing the concept of “political song,” even the creators themselves sometimes stand awkwardly.

Although most refer to it, there has not been a coordinated effort to document its characteristics and research to formulate a more precise definition. Therefore, everyone talks about political song, everyone refers to it, often desperately seeking it (especially in difficult and turbulent times), yet it is not certain that everyone means the same thing.

The musicologist Giorgos Myzalis, using bibliographic research and in-depth interviews with its key figures, engages with political song and highlights its timeless presence, the significant changes that have defined it, and its impressive role in all aspects of the daily life of Greeks.
