It is a powerful yet soothing astringent. It is considered a special remedy for children's diarrhea and dysentery. This astringency can be used for mucous colitis. It is also useful for nasal congestion when combined with other herbs. For external use, it is prepared as a mouthwash for inflammatory conditions of the mouth or tongue, as gargles for laryngitis or pharyngitis, and as vaginal washes for leukorrhea. It has been used as an ointment for hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

The above-ground part is considered diuretic, litholytic, and antihypochlorhydric. In Crete, it is regarded as a particularly effective herb for kidney and urinary bladder stones and is widely used today in herbal mixtures or on its own to address these issues. The decoction of the plant is used against stomach acidity, digestive ulcers, intestinal worms, colds, and travel nausea. It acts as an appetizer and aids digestion by neutralizing gas. It increases sweating and has an expectorant effect. It stimulates and tones the body and is beneficial for dizziness. It is useful in body disturbances due to excessive heat. The concentrated decoction of the plant is a good laxative. It helps in sore throat and toothache. In a poultice (with crushed plant), it helps against bee stings. Compresses from the leaves are beneficial for swelling and nausea. It stimulates the uterus and the nervous system. The oil of the plant is used on external wounds as a healing agent. A few drops of it in a bath invigorate us and revitalize the function of the genital glands. The decoction used as gargles has a healing effect on wounds of the larynx and mouth.

How to use: For treatment of kidney stones or urinary bladder stones, the herb is prepared as a decoction. We boil 6 grams of the dried herb in 2.5 cups of water for 10 minutes. Strain and drink half in the morning and the rest in the afternoon for 10 days.
