The present volume, which includes presentations referring to the development of the Science of Pedagogy in our country over the last 50 years, is the product of a Panhellenic Conference organized and implemented by the Teaching Methodology Laboratory of the Pedagogical Department of the University of Alexandroupolis on November 22, 23, and 24, 2002. This Conference and the publication of its proceedings were deemed necessary in order to demonstrate the stagnation or progress in the development of the Science of Pedagogy in Greece, given that such initiatives were lacking until now at least.
In this volume, professors from almost all universities in the country as well as personalities who in the past played a significant role in its development from various positions, directly or indirectly, present their views on Pedagogy. Therefore, their presentations, in our opinion and not only, present a particular interest for those who serve and work in this Science as well as for those in charge of educational policy.
In their presentations, the speakers refer to problems and difficulties that the Science of Pedagogy faced (and still faces) until it reached its current state and until it is finally recognized by other Sciences (Social and Natural Sciences). They present positions and opinions, and express reflections and proposals for its further development.
