In a world where the magic of reality meets the truth of fairy tales, reading stories often leads to science. Stories like: The Loaded Donkey, The Magpie and the Diamond, or The Limping Dude become understandable only if children perceive the phenomena they refer to: solubility-absorbency, melting of ice, flow of liquids, respectively.
In cases like these, the enjoyment and understanding of stories seem to pass through the knowledge of reality, bringing literature closer to the natural sciences. By selecting a series of well-known and beloved stories and a wide range of activities, within the framework of the Practical Exercises of the TEPAES of the University of the Aegean, educational practices were applied in kindergartens in Rhodes that aimed at uniting the two areas often considered incompatible: literature and the natural sciences.
The results showed that stories can lead kindergarten children to knowledge through the colorful paths of imagination.
