The educational and formative role of theater in education has been approached and analyzed in various ways. The utilization of drama and its techniques in the teaching of subjects, primarily in primary education, has become the subject of systematic research, and the related literature has been significantly enriched.
Nevertheless, the pinnacle of theatrical expression, which equally combines the artistic and pedagogical elements, the school theater performance, has not been sufficiently highlighted. This study aims to examine the manifestation of the school theater performance from different perspectives: as a dramatic text and performative art, as an artistic event and a component of cultural activities in school, as an educational good and initiation of students into social life, as an opening of the school to the broader society and contact of educators with the classical texts of ancient drama.
At the same time, the need for specialized educators, theater educators, who will engage with the multifaceted expression of theater and harness its dynamics, renewing the traditional forms of school festivals and creating modern ways of artistic expression, which through theater contribute to the development of comprehensive pedagogy, as a fundamental requirement in the school of the 21st century, is emphasized.
