Continuing the publishing effort to highlight historical and archival material from the heroic journey of the KKE, we proceed with the publication of this work by George Jamaloukas, the "father of guerrilla surgery," as he is remembered by the fighters of the DSE.
The reproduction of this edition was made from the 1975 one, published by the publishing house New Books, and is preserved in the Archive of the Central Committee of the KKE. Additionally, the edition has been enriched with related archival material from the Health Services of the DSE that is kept in the Archive of the Central Committee of the KKE, as well as with photographs from George Jamaloukas's life in political exile. (From the publisher's note)
“Grammos and Vitsi have remained a legend for the Greek people and a source of fear for the local and foreign enemies of our people. Those who fought to defend our people's independence and democracy have an obligation to extol the incomparable endurance and unmatched bravery of the fighters of the DSE, who, amid many deprivations, hardships, and adversities, fought for a new people's democratic Greece. In this great battle, the role played by the Health Services of the DSE was significant. The Health Services waged a continuous struggle against death to rescue those brave souls it sought to snatch away.” (Excerpt from the author's introduction)
