In the spring of 2014, Tanya Mousouri and Alexis Chatzis donated the archive (in original photographic films) of Apostolos Mousouri, a cameraman for the Democratic Army of Greece, to the archives of the Central Committee of the KKE. He took part as a cinematographer in the battles of Grammos (1948, 1949) and Vitsi (1949), capturing invaluable images that constitute indisputable and irrefutable historical documents.
Through an exceptionally human-centered perspective, Apostolos Mousouri delivers images from the daily lives of people in the areas of Free Greece, details of the lives of the fighters of the Democratic Army of Greece, recordings of battles, snapshots from training, and even topographically valuable photographic impressions, allowing today's young activist to approach moments from the history of that armed class conflict during the period 1946-49 as realistically as possible and to understand the everyday life and actions of the fighters of the Democratic Army of Greece.
An integral part of the actions of the Democratic Army of Greece was the organized retreat into the territory of Albania at the end of August 1949 and the political refuge that followed, resulting in the settlement of thousands as political refugees in People's Republics and the USSR, where most of them settled in the Tashkent area. There, Apostolos Mousouri himself lived, providing unique photographic documents of the first period of settlement of the political refugees for historical knowledge and research.
