“I love my child,” says a mother, and she keeps calling them constantly. She says she does it out of love. “I want to see what they are doing, where they are.” The reality is different. She does it because she cannot bear to let her child slip away from her hands and open up to their own life.

“And who are you with? And why are you late? And who is talking next to you, who is that?” This is about suspicion and a sick relationship. This is not love. Love means giving; it means “I want you to spread your wings. I want what is best for you.” If you have true love, you only want what is good for the one you love. And do you know what this does to your person? It makes them love you even more. They won’t detach from you.

Why don’t they detach? Because you let them detach. When you let someone detach from you, they don’t. When you pull them forcibly, you become repulsive. And you achieve the opposite. Love goes hand in hand with freedom. “I love you, and I set you free, and I let you free to do whatever you want.” And then you say: “With all this love you show me, you make me want you even more. Because you respect me.”

God does this. He respects us every moment of our lives. And He loves us, like the sunlight and like the rain that falls everywhere. Every day the sun rises for the whole world, constantly reminding us of eternal divine love.

When you see the sun shining, it’s as if Christ is saying to you: “And today again I love you, no matter what you were yesterday. And today I give you a chance for new choices. And when My rain falls, it does not distinguish between the good and the bad. It refreshes everyone. It waters all the houses. All the fields. And yours…”.
