NCPR is a new series of textbooks designed for native English speakers to learn Chinese. It consists of seventy lessons in six volumes for three years of instruction. Basic sentence patterns and functional items are introduced in the first three volumes with thirty-eight lessons. Book Four leads to the intermediate level of the last two Volumes, NPCR has been compiled under the guidance of the new NOTCFL Syllabus and in consultation with the HSK Guideline. The objective of this series is to develop the students ability to communicate using Chinese through the study of language structure, language function, and related cultural knowledge along with the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
NPCR's Volume 5 has the following features
- The volume has 10 texts and presents 10 topics. In addition to providing situations for learning language functional items, sentence structures and discourses, the texts are also helpful to learners in understanding Chinese culture and society at different times.
- In order to extend and deepen the understanding of learners in the structure of the Chinese language, the grammar section of each lesson consists of four parts: Word Partnerships, Examples and Illustrations of Words and Expressions, Sentence Structure, and Compound Sentences and Discourses.
- Each lesson offers seven types of exercise with rich practice material, including exercises on Chinese characters, words and expressions, sentences, compound sentences, texts and some comprehensive exercises.
- Each lesson is equipped with reading, conversation and listening materials to improve the four language skills of learners - listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- The book is accompanied by a separate Teacher's Book.
