After the major upheavals that marked the year 1979 - the Khomeini revolution, the seizure of the Great Mosque of Mecca, and the invasion of Afghanistan - the Islamist movement experienced a terrible expansion, the various stages of which are analyzed by the author.

Consecutively encouraged and suppressed by Arab governments, the Islamist movements, which claim Saudi Wahhabism, took advantage in the 1990s of the unreliability of certain regimes and attempted to seize power by force, especially in Algeria and Egypt.

Victims of mass repression, eroded by secret services and demonized in the eyes of the populations due to their blind terrorist methods, the Islamists, divided, lose their credibility and for this reason reinforce the established powers.

If the defeat of conservatives by liberals in Iran marks the bankruptcy of the Khomeinist revolution, the Islamist "international" of the "Afghan Arabs," led by the Saudi Bin Laden, and their attacks against the West lead us to question the future of this current.

This movement, defeated today, may be reborn from its ashes and again embody the popular discontent born from humiliation towards the State of Israel and from the weakness of Arab countries, and accept the challenge of synchronization.

This unpublished document also skillfully portrays the protagonists of this conflict, particularly the Algerian president Bouteflika and the dissenting Saudi Bin Laden.
