I've had it for about 2 and a half years. The first disappointment was that it doesn't support ultrawide mode (I use it on an ultrawide PC monitor). Just for that reason, I wouldn't have bought it. Supporting ultrawide mode isn't difficult, it's clearly a choice by Google not to support it.
Another unacceptable issue is the continuous display of photos without options other than Google albums or photos from your personal online album on Google Photos, which I neither use nor intend to use. For a company that supposedly cares about unnecessary energy consumption, the device should have a sleep mode like PC monitors have had for decades, or at least a night mode where it displays only the time on a black background. Instead, if you have it on during the night, you'll have to turn off your TV or monitor if you don't want blinding light in your room. The device will of course continue to consume power unnecessarily unless you unplug it from the socket. As it is, when the device is not in use, it continues to consume power and doesn't allow the TV or monitor to go into sleep mode. These are the "Green sensitive" people at Google.
But the most significant problem from day one is the daily restarts of the device twice a day around 3pm and 3am, regardless of whether you're watching a movie or playlist on YouTube at that time, the device will restart just because it feels like it. There's no setting for this anywhere. There are thousands of people with this problem, of course Google doesn't care. A software/firmware update would solve the problem, but the ecologically sensitive Google prefers you to buy a new device and let the old one end up in the landfill.
Coincidentally, the same problem exists on my Samsung A41 Android 10 device. It restarts periodically at 3am, there's an option in Android which is disabled, Samsung has released an update to Android 11 for the device which likely solves the problem, but I'm not interested in doing it for something relatively insignificant. I mention this for two reasons, the fact that it exists on Android devices makes it clear that it was Google's inspiration and responsibility, Samsung dealt with it when it caused problems for some of its users, Google, which is responsible for Chromecast, doesn't care about its users.
Το έχω 2μισι χρόνια περίπου. Η πρώτη απογοήτευση ήταν ότι δεν υποστηριζει ultrawide λειτουργία (το χρησιμοποιώ σε ultrawide pc monitor). Και μόνο γι αυτό δεν θα το αγόραζα, δεν είναι κάτι δύσκολο η λειτουργία ultrawide, είναι ξεκάθαρα επιλογή της google να μην το υποστηρίζει.
Άλλο απαράδεκτο είναι η συνεχής προβολή φωτογραφιών χωρίς επιλογές περα απο αλμπουμ της google ή φωτογραφίες από το προσωπικό σου online άλμπουμ στο google photos το οποίο ούτε χρησιμοποιώ ούτε πρόκειται. Για εταιρία που υποτίθεται κόπτεται για την άσκοπη κατανάλωση ενέργειας η συσκευή έπρεπε να έχει sleep mode όπως έχουν τα pc monitors εδώ και δεκαετίες, κατ ελάχιστο έπρεπε να έχει λειτουργία νυχτας όπου θα προβάλλει μόνο την ώρα σε μαύρο background. Αντι αυτού εάν το έχεις ανοιχτό μεσα στη νύχτα θα πρέπει να κλείσεις την τηλεόραση ή monitor αν δεν θες εκτυφλωτικό φως στο χωρο σου. Η συσκευή βέβαια θα συνεχίσει να καταναλώνει ρεύμα άσκοπα εκτός αν την αποσυνδέσεις από την πρίζα. Ως έχει όταν δεν είναι σε χρήση η συσκευή συνεχίζει να καταναλώνει ρεύμα και δεν αφήνει και την tv ή monitor να γυρίσει σε sleep mode. Αυτά από τους "Green sensitive" της google.
Το πιο σημαντικό όμως πρόβλημα από την πρώτη μέρα είναι οι καθημερινές επανεκκινησεις της συσκευής 2 φορές την ημέρα περι τις 3 το μεσημέρι και 3 μετά τα μεσάνυχτα άσχετα αν εκείνη την ώρα εσύ παρακολουθείς κάποια ταινία ή Playlist στο youtube η συσκευή θα κάνει επανεκκίνηση επειδή έτσι γουστάρει.
Δεν υπάρχει setting πουθενά γι αυτό. Υπάρχουν χιλιάδες με αυτό το πρόβλημα, φυσικά η google δεν απασχολείται. Ένα software/firmware update θα έλυνε το πρόβλημα αλλά από την οικολογικα ευαίσθητη google προτιμούν να αγοράσεις νέα συσκευή και η παλιά να καταλήξει στη χωματερή.
Συμπτωματικά το ίδιο πρόβλημα υπάρχει και στη συσκευή μου samsung a41 android 10. Ανα διαστήματα κάνει επανεκκίνηση στις 3 μετά τα μεσάνυχτα, υπάρχει επιλογή στο android η οποία είναι απενεργοποημενη, η samsung έχει βγάλει update της συσκευής σε android 11 το οποιο πιθανόν λύνει το πρόβλημα αλλά δεν με ενδιαφέρει να το κάνω για κάτι σχετικά ασήμαντο.
Αυτό το αναφέρω για 2 λόγους, το ότι υπάρχει στις android συσκευές κάνει σαφές ότι ήταν έμπνευση και ευθύνη της google, η samsung ασχολήθηκε να κανει κάτι όταν αυτό δημιουργούσε πρόβλημα σε κάποιους χρήστες της, η google που φέρει την ευθύνη για το chromecast δεν ενδιαφέρεται για τους χρήστες.
