Description

The story of Tamdhu begins at the end of the Victorian era on the banks of the River Spey, where it operated until 2010 according to the vision and principles of its founder. In 2011, it was acquired by Ian Macleod Distillers – an independent family-owned company. The company was relaunched in 2012, with the new owners determined to restore this distinguished malt to its former glory.

Just a measure of this "old-fashioned" 12-year-old whisky is enough to appreciate why we exclusively choose the best sherry oak casks for its maturation.

Our luxurious box reveals an elegant bottle that highlights the natural amber notes of the radiant spirit. Savor the intense, rich palette on the palate and discover the lasting and deep finish it offers. Rich and enticing nose with aromas of cinnamon, boiled sweet orange, fresh oak with raisins, and a hint of mint.

On the palate, it gives us notes of banana, berry jam, malt biscuit combined with the classic "cask" flavor, and in the finish, it leaves us with balanced aromas of spices and dried fruits with a hint of peat.

  • I’m not an expert to talk about palettes, aftertaste, aromas, etc.; I’ll just tell you that if you like sweet whiskies without smoke, chances are this one will delight you. More specifically, personally I like the 12-year-old GlenAllachie, Macallan, Bunnahabhain, GlenDronach, and Arran 10.

One of the best whiskies of its kind is Tamdhu 12, which matures in "Sherry Casks" type barrels.

The aroma was somewhat low profile. It had some spicy notes, vanilla, caramel, and fruits, but it wasn't as lively as others in the same category.

The taste was smooth at first and sweet, but quickly became a bit aggressive and had a slight burn, though nothing serious. Vanilla, fruits, caramel, etc. were present.

The mouthfeel was pleasant, and the whisky embraced my tongue quite well.

The aftertaste was good, with a slight bitterness right at the end. Pleasant and warm. I have definitely tried better ones.

Overall, it is a good whisky, but for its price and style, there are better options out there, in my opinion.
