The brilliant Irish author Bram Stoker, drawing on the age-old tradition surrounding Dracula of Transylvania, published his eponymous masterpiece in 1897, which has influenced modern culture like few others and has experienced countless film adaptations.
The story begins with the visit of British lawyer Jonathan Harker to Dracula's castle in the Carpathian Mountains, in order to assist the count in purchasing a house in London. Harker will discover the horrific truth about his client and will remain imprisoned in his castle, while Dracula will travel to England in search of innocent victims for the world of the undead. Three men, Dr. Helsing, Dr. Seward, and Arthur Holmwood, become the bodyguards of the good and the only ones who will attempt to stop Dracula.
WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE BOOK One of the most powerful horror stories of all time. Malcolm Bradbury, author. Stoker masterfully utilizes the primal notion of the power of blood. The belief that evil feeds and grows with blood provides a plausible explanation for the supernatural qualities of this Dracula, who terrorizes not only the heroes of the novel but also the reader himself. The fear that the monstrous protagonist will leap from the pages and try to sate his thirst with the blood of real people is pervasive throughout the reading – and this, of course, is a success of Stoker, long before Stephen King.
