Napoleon Bonaparte's famous saying that history is written by the victors was cynically vindicated in the case of the national resistance of the Northern Epirus people during the period 1941-1945.
The author of this forgotten document from 1947, which we are publishing for the first time in Greek, profoundly recounts the events that took place in the martyrdom of Northern Epirus, which is fundamentally Greek, during the period that followed the withdrawal of the Greek Army in April 1941.
Their struggle to protect the life and property of the populations and to achieve union with Greece was twofold. They had to fight against the Italian and German occupiers on one front while simultaneously defending themselves against the brutality of the Albanian gangs, both "nationalist" and "communist."
The victory of Enver Hoxha, thanks to the support of the "allies," primarily Tito's Yugoslavs and the British agents operating in Albania at the time, neutralized the second attempt after 1914 by the Northern Epirote patriots for liberation. Their heroic struggle was drowned in blood and silence.
This book seeks to reconstruct this truth, battling against false propaganda, oblivion, and betrayal. We are convinced that in the case of the contemporary Northern Epirus issue, history and truth may lose some battles, but they will ultimately win the War.
