Former police officer Mario Conte still holds in his memory that afternoon in the fishing village of Kohimar in 1960, when, still a child, with his grandfather holding him by the hand, he had the opportunity to see up close the mythical North American who lived in Cuba: the writer Ernest Hemingway. Forty years later, a hurricane uproots an ancient tree in Hemingway's garden in Havana and brings to the surface a corpse. And not just any corpse, but a corpse that carries something that immediately means alarm. Having a love-hate relationship with Hemingway, Conte accepts the proposal of his former colleagues to deal with the case. The surprises begin to come one after the other, and there are many. Will he ever learn the truth? Will he learn what really happened that night in October 1958? Will he learn what relationship Hemingway had, or did not have, with the mysterious and dangerous corpse? Will Conte finally manage to settle his accounts with the famous writer and escape from everything that haunts him?
