Description

In this important book, Jesper Juul analyzes the exciting crossroads at which today's families find themselves. The destructive principles - obedience, physical and emotional violence, and conformity - that once dominated hierarchical families are changing.

Instead of these, we can choose a new set of principles, based on the assumption that families should be built on dignity and reciprocity between parents and children rather than on authoritarian power or democratic tyranny. Children are capable of expressing their feelings from the moment they are born and are eager to cooperate.

It is the parents who must listen and learn from their children. Juul is an internationally recognized expert on families. Using examples from families in many different countries, he has written a book that challenges parents to see the years they spend with their children as an exciting period of growth and development for the whole family.

Wonderful book!! It helps with how to behave towards our children and how to assist them. And how to help ourselves from repeating wrong behaviors towards our children!

  • It is a book that talks about the parent-child relationship, in a modern and distinct way from many parenting books that are available. It focuses on the importance and understanding of a child's emotions and how they "collaborate" to coexist with their parents. It is a very good suggestion for reading, even for those who have already read a lot on the subject.

Having read various books on child rearing, I believe that this is perhaps the only one that a parent-guardian needs to read. It does not propose a specific method, as methods objectify children. Respect, maintaining the child's integrity, and reinforcing not only self-confidence but primarily self-esteem are some of the fundamental concepts addressed in the book. I highly recommend it to those who have children under their care.

Finally something so different and meaningful in this genre of parenting books. It focuses on our bond with the child and does not waste time on behavior and "correction" of behaviors. A book that finally sets the right dimensions for respecting the integrity of the human being and will change the way you think about your child. The child as a mirror of family dynamics is "capable" of sending messages to the parent, as long as we "see" them with open eyes and heart. Also, every child deserves respect for their integrity in order to conquer the responsibility and maturity that comes from within. Just as you wouldn't apply "methods" to your wife or friends, the child doesn't need a "method" but rather connection, love, guidance, and respect. With real examples of children and families from Jesper Juul's psychotherapeutic experience. Very specific and understandable.
