This period is a time of reconfiguration of balances, both in our country and in the wider geographical area to which it belongs. The rearrangements and their dynamics raise many questions about the present and future in our region and in our homeland.
Although it is dangerous to expect the future to evolve according to the origins of the past, it is equally dangerous to reject a historical heritage, which predisposes, if nothing else.
So, it is important to understand how we came to the revolution of 1821 and how the independent Greek state was formed.
However, in order for these crucial events to happen, a long period of foreign interventions and fermentations preceded, in combination with initiatives of the Greek diaspora and the subjugated regions, which prepared the ground.
Therefore, it is highlighted as a requirement to understand what was the dynamic of the correlation of foreign powers at that time and their relations with the Greek issue and subsequently with the fertile newly established Greek state.
The Battle of Navarino was the first crucial step. However, the independent state was essentially established with the Treaty of Adrianople, after the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829.
But would all this have happened if the Greeks had not rallied in the Friendly Society initially and if they had not declared the Revolution, persisting until the end, for a unified independent state?
