Description & Specifications

The comprehensive high school, which places general education and vocational training under the same roof, has been a distinctly American educational institution, a unique invention to serve the educational needs of society in the early 20th century that created it.

Since then, it has continued to be the dominant type of secondary school, although it has never truly lived up to what it promised. This is because it was called upon to achieve the impossible, to uphold the myths of a classless society while simultaneously preparing young people for their future lives in a society based on class division.

The classification of children within it, which arose as a necessity from the significant increase in the number of children, as well as the expectation of continuing some form of common school beyond the basic level, determined both its form and role: the different for each in a framework for all will coexist as essence the first and the second as a pretense of presence.
