The texts presented in this edition come from the 5th volume of "Theory Culture & Society," which is dedicated to postmodernism.

The text by Douglas Kellner ("Postmodernism as Social Theory"), written in the wake of the great debate on postmodernism, serves as a useful introduction to the subject. The author provides a lengthy overview of the phenomenon, starting from its French manifestations (Baudrillard, Lyotard) and concluding, on one hand, with a critique of the criticism posed by Habermas on postmodernism from the perspective of the Frankfurt School, and on the other hand, with a more positive approach to the Marxist interpretation of postmodernism by Fredric Jameson as the "cultural logic of capitalism."

In the second essay, Zygmunt Bauman ignites a series of thoughts with his title question ("Is There Postmodern Sociology?"), which leads to a more precise definition of "postmodernity" amidst the bubble of inflationary "post-" terms that have inundated the field of theory following the proclamation of the "end of history."

The third essay ("Beyond Progress: The Museum and Montage," by David Roberts) articulates, through a dialectical conjunction of Malraux and Benjamin, a defense of the art of the past from an unexpected "postmodern" perspective.
