Monthlies are the Byzantine collections of the lives of saints and hymns that were recorded by month, according to the feast. The "Literary Monthly" refers to the lives of people in general, saints and non-saints alike. And, of course, it also includes their hymns.
In other words: This book traces, month by month, the literary texts, both prose and poetry, related to the changes of nature, the activities and concerns of people, the celebrations and customs, their feelings and passions throughout the year. Or, to put it another way, it is like observing through the sensitivity of Literature the phenomena of life passing along with “the turning of the cycle,” as the poet says.
The writings that make it up were first published in the supplement "Seven Days" of the newspaper "Kathimerini," on the first Sunday of each month, during 2001. The expressed interest of many readers sparked the idea for their collective presentation. An additional text was added - not unrelated to the other twelve - which refers to the adventures of the Beautiful Helen, again within Literature. Let it be considered a gift to the (always beautiful) Helens, who celebrate on May 21st.
