Looking back at the various periods of our modern history, we will see that the role of women was always present and their contribution undoubtedly mattered greatly in every outcome.
However, during our National Resistance period, the role played by women was one that far exceeded any previous one. Women at that time, in complete equality with men—something that happened for the first time in our history—gave their best effort both to drive out the foreign occupiers, the Germans, Italians, and Bulgarians, and to shape a better society, more just, freer, and more democratic.
A society that would ensure better living conditions for themselves, their men, and their children. In a brochure of the National Liberation Front (EAM) published in February 1943 titled: "How Women Should Work in the National Liberation Front," instructions are provided, some even with details, on how women should share the areas of work.
