The Greek foreign policy, in the era of the great upheavals we are experiencing, is based on the principles of respect for international law, peace, international solidarity, democracy, the protection of human rights, and social justice.

Its constant reference is the defense of our sovereign rights and the service of our national interests. This is a foreign policy of principles, ethics, and law. During the four years from 1996 to 2000, Greece faced unprecedented challenges, difficult problems, and serious crises. The foreign policy adopted bore fruit and was vindicated.

Greece has a presence and prestige in the European Union, in international organizations, and in general in the international community. Greece is a European, Balkan, and Mediterranean country. The PASOK Government utilized the country's triple regional identity, historical resources, and human potential through its multifaceted foreign policy.

The main goal of Greek foreign policy is to better serve our national interests by promoting the country as a significant force for peace and stability, development, and cooperation in the European, regional, and international European system. A strong Greece remains our guide.
