The Quran is the oldest and, to this day, the most perfect work of classical Arabic prose. The word "Quran" in Arabic means "reading" and is considered by Muslims as the continuation and confirmation - completion of the other holy scriptures revealed by God to earlier prophets.
The Quran is divided into 114 chapters (suras), each containing individual verses. It proclaims the uniqueness of God and emphasizes divine mercy and forgiveness. God is all-powerful and all-knowing, compassionate towards His creations, but also decisive in His punishment.
It commands justice and honesty, kindness towards orphans and widows, as well as charity towards the poor. The most important duties of a Muslim include belief in one God and His Apostles, prayer, charity, fasting (if possible), and the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Quran is one of the greatest books of prophetic literature, as well as a literary masterpiece of unparalleled value. However, it contains several passages that can be subject to multiple interpretations. Among Arabs, a whole branch of knowledge known as tafsir has developed, which deals with the interpretation of the Quran.
