Comedy of farcical situations written in 1593-1594, in verses and rhythms that closely resemble the English sonnets of the 16th century. Its theme is the need for the people of the Renaissance to travel, as well as the competition among friends when romantic differences arise between them.
With a fair amount of didacticism, but also humor, wordplay, and astute commentary, Shakespeare manages to create a work that, despite its simplistic myth, foreshadows the arrival of his great tragedies and comedies.
The Two Gentlemen of Verona is a comedy primarily based on the loves of young couples, flavored with comedic roles of servants, rivals, and innkeepers, presenting a cheerful mosaic of the Elizabethan era.
