Description & Specifications

Panic grips Swedish society as one after another, the country's business magnates are murdered. In order to solve the case as quickly as possible and without further losses, the Chief of Police establishes the elite Alpha Team. Although a heterogeneous group, the team is called to capture the "Murderer of the Powerful," who infiltrates their parlors without leaving a trace, listens to jazz while lurking in the darkness, and always kills with two shots to the head.

The investigations lead down different paths; from banks and sailing to the Russian mafia and a legendary improvisation by jazz musician Thelonious Monk... Misterioso. AN EXHILARATING ADVENTURE OF THE LEGENDARY ALPHA TEAM

WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE BOOK

Perhaps the most talented of all Scandinavian writers. His keen perception is impressive. Equally impressive is the unvarnished image of Swedish society in his novels, devoid of political correctness. Petros Markaris, Ta Nea (Book Review)

Arne Dahl has created his own school within the tradition of Swedish crime fiction. He combines suspense, international intrigue, and espionage with unparalleled literary skill. Lars Kepler, author

Read an excerpt

Something passed through his heart of winter. Something he couldn't quite identify, but it was definitely something. A breath of warmth, perhaps a faint ray of light filtering through the gray blanket of clouds, or maybe the fact that the little pond surrounding his parking spot all winter was smaller – the spot that still bore his name. He paused for a moment and looked up at the morning clouds. The same as usual. It was there like a protective roof of the bank, welcoming him. The same calmness, as always. A little further down, the village nested, seemingly untouched; the small columns of smoke rising and swirling from one chimney or another were the only signs of life. He listened to the monotonous chirping of a parakeet and saw it poke its head out of its nest right under the roof. He locked the car door and briskly crossed the few steps to the small door of the staff entrance. He took out a large set of keys and unlocked the three security locks one after the other. Inside the branch, it smelled like a Monday, a light weekend confinement, which Lisbet would soon air out when she arrived, as usual, starting her cheerful chatter at the same time. He always came first. Pure routine. Everything was the same as always. He repeated to himself many times: everything is the same as always. Perhaps he said it most of the time, occasionally. He stood at his cash register and opened the drawer. He took out a long gilded case and weighed one of his darts in his hand. His special weapon. Even among the experienced, not many knew what a dart should look like. His were long, custom-made, with a body twelve centimeters long, of which about seven made up the "nose" – a length that always surprised opponents – and had quite short, dense feathers
