If this work is misleadingly titled History of Greek Literature and its reception from 1876 to 1985/2000, a title that evokes well-known Histories and might create different expectations, it could also be named:
(a) "Essay on the history of literature".
(b) "(Ex)story of literature..." - by an avid reader passionate about letters.
(c) "Literature bibliography..." - by an amateur but also an enthusiastic bibliographer.
(d) "Wandering" through the streets and alleys of Greek letters.
(e) "Comprehensive chronicle of literature," where the hypothetical researcher lovingly records the works they read, in the chronological order they are presented, thus participating, one way or another, in the entire process with their personal judgment and approaching both "truth" and "fallacy," as a person of their time.
I assert that the present work aims to cover, if possible, all these meanings. I say "all," because indeed all serve the same idea. My intention, however, was to provide a "tool for work" useful for every "self-punishing" individual, if this characterization fits the members of our guild.
