Dear Mr. Tertsetis! After the war for freedom, you see how far I have distanced myself from Greek affairs. I, my friend, have become an agronomist and am trying to restore a small estate of mine in Dara of Mantinea to live off the sweat of my brow and thus spend my old age peacefully.
Whenever you see me, you call me nothing else but constantly urge me to bring to light what I know about the Greek struggle, especially those things that I myself witnessed with my own eyes. You repeat this to me every day in your letters. Therefore, your many urgings have finally been heard in the last days of my life.
Because I have also seen that those who were educated and attempted to write the history of the struggle, from the bad information they received from hearsay and newspapers, all fell into gross errors. They rendered Greek affairs awkward and unbelievable. The homeland mourns and sighs, and those who come after us will curse us because we did not leave them a true history.
Your sincere friend, Fotakos
